Steven Jacob
Foreign Associate
Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam

Steven Jacob is a California certified attorney who has spent half a decade working in the Indochina region. During his attendance at Santa Clara University, where he received a J.D., Steven interned with VILAF-Hong Duc, another of Vietnam's top law firms. After graduating he worked with Indochine Counsel as a Legal Consultant for a year where he acted in several cases ranging from international trade to corporate law and from M&A to intellectual property.

In 2010 he moved to Cambodia where he worked with the firm Bun & Associates. There he assisted with hotel management agreements, banking documents, and some labor law.

In 2011 he moved to become in-house legal counsel for Sanum Investments, Ltd. There he was responsible for legal actions and contract issues for Cambodia and Laos. Based in Laos he assisted in some banking issues, but largely focused on corporate and commercial work. Perhaps his largest job was assisting external counsel in a treaty arbitration between Sanum Investments, Ltd., and the Laos government over expropriated assets.

Steven has authored several articles on the region. Most recently he published “Selecting a Dispute Resolution Venue in Laos” in the IPBA journal, and co-authored the “Vietnam Chapter: International Insolvency and Restructuring Guide” for a Law Firm Network publication, and “Corporate Governance and Directors' Duties: Vietnam”, PLC Cross-border Corporate Governance and Directors’ Duties Handbook 2010 published by Practical Law Company. He also edits the firm’s monthly Client Alert and regularly contributes articles to that forum. In 2010, Steven was included in Asian Legal Business’s Hot 100 Lawyers.
