Vietnam CFO Forum 2017 will take place on 22nd November 2017 at Sheraton, Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City. Continuing on the theme of important and cutting edge issues facing legal personnel, corporations, and investors in the region, Dang The Duc (Managing Partner) and Le Hong Bao Chuong (Associate) contributed the Vietnam chapter to the Lexis-Nexis guide.

Indochine Counsel is excited to announce the publication of the Law Firm Network’s Cross-Border Contract Guide. Authored by Managing Director Dang The Duc and Associate Le Hong Bao Chuong, the Vietnam chapter reviews some of the recent changes in Vietnam’s international contract law, specifically the adoption of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, or CISG. 

Indochine Counsel is pleased to share the publication of the Kennedys Legal Guide to Corporate Insurance for Asia in 2017. Authored by Dang The Duc, Managing Partner and Nguyen Chi Trung, Senior Associate, the Vietnam Chapter is a comprehensive overview of corporate insurance issues in the country and provides information regarding those issues in a fast and changing legal environment. 

On April 26 the World Intellectual Property Organization celebrated World Intellectual Property Day. In response to this international event, the Ho Chi Minh City, Department of Science and Technology organized an Intellectual Property Day on 26/4/2017 at 273 Dien Bien Phu, Ward 7, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.

Founded on 18 October 2006, now ten years later, Indochine Counsel has made close relationships with clients and colleagues throughout the country and the region. On 18 October 2016, Indochine Counsel celebrated its anniversary with a gala dinner held at GEM Center, in honor of its partners, lawyers, staff and all those who have worked with Indochine Counsel over the years. Vietnam CFO Forum 2016 will take place on 8th November 2016 at Lotte Legend Hotel Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City with an opening address by Mr Hiroshi Yaguchi, Chairman of the Japan Association for CFOs (JACFO).

Foreign investors now have opportunities to increase investments up to 100 percent of voting shares in a public company in Vietnam. This availability occurs when companies have been in progress to change their Foreign Ownership Limits (“FOL”) as allowed by current regulations. In addition to the FOL loosening, a number of other actions are now in progress of implementation by our related Government agencies towards the promotion of Vietnam’s Stock Market to Emerging Markets (EM”) classification by MSCI.

Every year Indochine Counsel goes on vacation for a few days as an entire firm. Sometimes they stay in country, going to Nha Trang or Vung Tau or other destinations with beaches and pools. This year the firm went to Malaysia.

The meeting brought together lawyers from all over the region who are members and observers of the Law Firm Network.

Indochine Counsel is excited to announce the publication of the Law Firm Network’s Directors’ Liability Guide 2015. The guide is written by Dang The Duc, Managing Partner, and Steve Jacob, Foreign Associate. This is an important area of law as oftentimes directors of international companies are unaware of their liability in lesser jurisdictions. Not to say that Vietnam is a lesser jurisdiction, but it is a country with a vast network of laws that are constantly changing, and as a frontier market, sometimes receives less attention that it should. It is important to understand the liabilities available to directors, especially as investment speeds up and business becomes a bigger bet.
