About

Professor Ngo is an international arbitrator, academic and arbitration specialist based in Singapore. He is also the founding President of Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre (BAIAC), Singapore. As an experienced practitioner, his professional and academic activities focus on Southeast Asia, East Asia and South Asia, the three key global economic growth regions. He has acted as party representative for both the private and government/public sectors on dispute resolution and arbitrations. He has been consulted on potential investor-state arbitration, evaluating cases against and for the state party. Steve also previously held independent expert and advisor roles on arbitration and dispute resolution matters for a Southeast Asian government body concerning the mining & energy sector.

As a seasoned lecturer and speaker, he has delivered numerous lectures on arbitration and dispute resolution in the region. In addition to developing courses and curricula for arbitration and international dispute resolution, he has a wide range of research interests in international arbitration and dispute resolution which includes cultural elements in dispute settlement, arbitration reform, global affairs, current trends and innovation in dispute resolution. He has authored numerous works on arbitration and international dispute resolution in prominent and influential publications, book chapters and a book on the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration written in the Indonesian language.

At present, among others, he is an Advisory Board Member of the Centre of Alternative Dispute Resolution, National Law University, Delhi; Member of the Asia Advisory Board of the American Arbitration Association – International Centre for Dispute Resolution (AAA-ICDR); Member of the Advisory Board of Gujarat International Maritime Arbitration Centre (GIMAC) and Council Member of the Hong Kong International Mediation Centre. He is also a Common Room Member of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. He was previously an Advisor to the Myanmar International Arbitration Centre, Qinzhou Arbitration Commission and Advisor/Foreign Representative of the Shanghai Arbitration Court of International Shipping, Shanghai Arbitration Commission.
