Ho Chi Minh City, 19 November 2025
From 19 to 25 November 2025, the delegation from Indochine Counsel conducted a business trip across Kunming and Chongqing, China, focusing on professional exchange, cross-border legal cooperation, and regional engagement within the Lancang–Mekong legal community. During the trip, the team attended the “Lancang-Mekong Legal Services Coordination Mechanism and South & Southeast Asia Foreign-related Legal Services Exchange Conference” in Kunming, where they engaged with legal institutions and practitioners from across the Mekong region.
The event was hosted by the Kunming Lawyers Association, organized by the Kunming South & Southeast Asia Legal Services Center, and guided by the Yunnan Lawyers Association, one of Indochine Counsel’s long-standing regional partners. The conference gathered delegates from bar associations, legal institutions and law firms across China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Representing Indochine Counsel at the conference were:
- Mr. Dang Hoan My, Partner | Co-Head of Corporate & M&A, Projects & Infrastructure
- Mr. Pham Viet Tuan, Partner | Head of Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Real Estate & Construction
During the conference, Mr. Pham Viet Tuan shared remarks on the growing potential for cooperation in commercial dispute resolution between Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises, especially through international commercial arbitration and arbitration mechanisms across ASEAN jurisdictions. His comments reflected the increasing need for efficient, reliable and cross-border dispute resolution methods as regional business activities continue to expand.
The event offered an opportunity for meaningful professional exchanges, with discussions focused on strengthening legal collaboration in the Lancang-Mekong subregion, facilitating foreign-related legal services and supporting investment flows within South and Southeast Asia. Delegates also exchanged views on legal reform trends, cross-border regulatory challenges and opportunities to enhance cooperation among legal service providers in the region.
After the visit, Indochine Counsel received a traditional Yunnan handicraft gift from the Kunming Lawyers Association, a unique and memorable gesture that added a warm cultural highlight to the trip. The firm also entered into a cooperation agreement with Chongqing Huadong Law Firm, establishing a foundation for future professional exchanges, knowledge sharing and collaborative activities between the two firms.
Indochine Counsel is pleased to contribute to initiatives that strengthen legal cooperation within the Lancang-Mekong region. Our participation underscores the firm’s ongoing commitment to supporting clients involved in cross-border transactions, dispute resolution and regional investment activities. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Kunming Lawyers Association, the Kunming South & Southeast Asia Legal Services Center and the Yunnan Lawyers Association for their hospitality and for organizing such a meaningful and well-coordinated event.
